Arrive into Marrakech Menara Airport and transfer to your riad in the medina. A gentle orientation walk through the nearest souk lanes gets you settled before the fuller day tomorrow. In the evening we head to Jemaa el-Fna as the food stalls light up and the square fills with musicians and storytellers.
A full day in Marrakech: Bahia Palace early, before the crowds, then the Medersa Ben Youssef and the dyers' and tanners' souks. Afternoon is Jardin Majorelle and its Berber Museum. We close with a second, quieter evening at Jemaa el-Fna.
An hour and a half from Marrakech, Imlil sits at the base of Jebel Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak. We walk through walnut groves and Berber villages to a family home for a home-cooked lunch — a chance to talk with a local family rather than just photograph the scenery. Overnight in a mountain guesthouse, well above the heat and noise of the city.
We descend from the mountains to Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO-listed kasbah and Hollywood filming location, arriving before the tour buses. From there we cross the Draa Valley into the Dadès Gorge, where the road switchbacks between red rock walls. Overnight in a kasbah guesthouse at the gorge.
We continue east through the Ziz Valley palmeries and reach Merzouga by early afternoon. Sunset camel trek into Erg Chebbi, arriving at a bivouac camp for a traditional tagine dinner around the fire and Berber music under a genuinely dark sky.
An early climb up the nearest dune ridge for sunrise, then back to a proper hotel in Merzouga village for the rest of the day — genuinely free time to rest, swim, or explore the village at your own pace before dinner.
A long driving day (around 7 hours) north through the Middle Atlas, breaking in Ifrane — sometimes called Morocco's Switzerland for its cedar forests and Alpine-style architecture. Arrive in Fes by early evening and check in to your medina riad.
A full day inside Fes el-Bali, the world's largest car-free urban medina. We view the Chouara Tannery from a leather shop terrace in the morning, pass the Al-Qarawiyyin (founded 859, the world's oldest continuously operating university), and lose ourselves deliberately in the blue-tiled medina lanes.
A scenic 4-hour drive north through the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen, where every medina lane is washed in shades of blue. Afternoon free to wander and photograph at your own pace — this town rewards slow, aimless walking more than any checklist.
A relaxed final morning in Chefchaouen's main square before the transfer onward — typically to Tangier or Casablanca for your departure flight, roughly 4–5 hours depending on airport choice.
