5-Day Marrakech & Essaouira Coastal TourThe Red City and the Atlantic
5 days / 4 nights·Max 12
About this journey
Not every Morocco trip needs the Sahara. This tour pairs Marrakech's medina with Essaouira's Atlantic coast — two genuinely different Moroccos, five days, no long desert drive. The first two days are spent in Marrakech itself — souks, gardens, the main square — before a relaxed drive west to Essaouira, a walled port town with fishing boats, seafood grills, and a completely different rhythm to the Red City. This suits travellers short on time who still want both a classic Moroccan medina and a coastal change of pace, and anyone who's already done the desert circuit and wants a shorter, different kind of trip this time. If you want to extend this with more desert or mountain time, ask when you enquire — several guests add days on either end.
- Marrakech medina and Jardin Majorelle
- Essaouira's Atlantic ramparts and fishing harbour
- No long desert or mountain driving days
- Fresh seafood on the Essaouira harbour
- Ideal short trip or add-on to a longer Morocco visit
Day by day
The group meets in the afternoon for a walking orientation of the medina — Jemaa el-Fna as the food stalls set up, and the souks organised by trade. Overnight in a Marrakech riad.
- Group meeting and medina walk
- Jemaa el-Fna at dusk
A relaxed morning at Jardin Majorelle and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, with the afternoon free for souk shopping or simply resting before the coastal leg tomorrow.
- Jardin Majorelle and YSL Museum
- Free afternoon
A relaxed two-and-a-half-hour drive west brings you to Essaouira, a walled Atlantic port town with a completely different rhythm — fishing boats, seafood grills on the harbour, and sea air. Afternoon free to explore the ramparts.
- Coastal drive to Essaouira
- Free time in the Essaouira medina
A local guide walks you through the Essaouira medina — the Skala ramparts used in Game of Thrones, the woodworking souks, and the fish market at the port. The afternoon is unstructured: a beach walk or a seafood lunch at the harbour grills.
- Essaouira medina walking tour
- Skala ramparts
- Free beach or harbour afternoon
The drive back to Marrakech takes around two and a half hours, timed to connect with your onward flight.
- Transfer to Marrakech
- Flexible airport drop-off

Questions about this tour
Not necessarily — it depends what you want. This route trades the Sahara for coastal time, which suits travellers short on time or who've already seen the desert.
About two and a half hours each way, considerably shorter than any of our desert routes.
The Atlantic here is cooler and windier than the Mediterranean — many visitors enjoy the beach and walks more than swimming, though it's certainly done.
Yes — ask when you enquire and we can build a longer itinerary around this coastal core.
Essaouira is pleasant nearly year-round thanks to Atlantic winds; spring and autumn are most comfortable for the Marrakech portion.
As a guideline, $8 per traveller per day for the guide and $5 per day for the driver, given directly at the end of the tour.
