6-Day Private Marrakech & Atlas Mountains TourMountains and the Red City, Without the Desert Detour
6 days / 5 nights·2–14 (private for your group)
About this journey
Not everyone wants the long drive to the Sahara, and this tour is built for exactly that — a private, mountain-and-city-focused route through Marrakech and the High Atlas without the multi-day round trip to Merzouga. It suits travellers with less time, or who are simply more drawn to mountains and Berber villages than sand dunes. The route stays close to Marrakech geographically but covers real ground: the Ourika Valley, Imlil at the foot of Jebel Toubkal (North Africa's highest peak), and a night in a mountain guesthouse rather than a city hotel. It's paired with proper time in Marrakech itself at both ends. This suits travellers who want a shorter, less driving-heavy private trip, hikers who want at least one real trail day, and anyone who's already done a Sahara tour on a previous visit and wants to see a different side of Morocco this time. The trekking is optional and adjustable — a gentle half-day walk near Imlil suits most fitness levels, while more ambitious groups can arrange a longer route with advance notice.
- High Atlas focus — Ourika Valley, Imlil and Jebel Toubkal foothills
- One night in a mountain guesthouse, not just city hotels
- No long round-trip to the Sahara — more time near Marrakech
- Optional half-day or full-day trekking near Imlil
- Private vehicle and guide throughout
Day by day
Your guide meets you on arrival and spends the afternoon giving you a proper orientation to the Marrakech medina — Jemaa el-Fna, the souks organised by trade, and enough landmarks that you can navigate on your own for the rest of the trip. A relaxed first day to adjust before heading into the mountains.
- Private medina orientation walk
- Jemaa el-Fna at dusk
A short drive into the Ourika Valley, greener and more populated than the high passes further south — Berber villages, terraced farmland, and a walk to the Setti Fatma waterfalls if your group is up for it. Back in Marrakech for the evening.
- Ourika Valley villages
- Setti Fatma waterfalls (optional walk)
- Evening free in Marrakech
A scenic 90-minute drive climbs into the High Atlas to Imlil, the trailhead village for Jebel Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak. The afternoon is free to wander the village and acclimatise before tomorrow's walk. Overnight in a mountain guesthouse with proper Atlas views.
- Drive into the High Atlas
- Imlil village
- Mountain guesthouse overnight
A local trekking guide leads a walk toward the Toubkal foothills — a gentle half-day route through Berber villages and walnut groves suits most fitness levels, with a longer full-day option for more experienced walkers. Either way, you're back at the guesthouse by evening for a home-cooked Berber dinner.
- Guided trek near Toubkal foothills
- Berber village visits
- Home-cooked Berber dinner
The drive back down to Marrakech takes under two hours, leaving the rest of the day free — a hammam, Jardin Majorelle, or last-minute souk shopping before the group's final dinner together.
- Short drive back to Marrakech
- Free afternoon
- Final dinner
The tour ends after breakfast, with your private transfer arranged around your actual flight time.
- Private airport transfer

Questions about this tour
If you're short on time, have already seen the desert, or are more drawn to mountains and hiking than sand dunes, this route makes more sense — less driving, more time in one region.
The standard half-day route near Imlil suits most fitness levels with no technical difficulty. A longer, more demanding full-day option is available with advance notice.
No — the standard walk is accessible to reasonably active travellers of most ages. If you want a serious Toubkal summit attempt, that's a different, more technical trip we can help arrange separately.
March to June and September to November. Winter can bring snow to the higher trails, and midsummer heat makes trekking less comfortable.
It's enough for a proper taste of Imlil and one solid trekking day. If you want more time hiking, additional mountain nights can be added to the itinerary.
As a guideline, $10 per traveller per day for the guide and $6 per day for the driver, plus a separate small tip for the local trekking guide.
